Funky Cats Rule

I finally finished one of my WIPs this weekend. I started "Funky Cats Rule" last year, and this weekend, I stitched the binding on and made and attached the label. This strippy quilt was based on one that Debbie at Hobbysew made, although I didn't use all the prints she did, and I made a few other changes. I used Laurel Birch fabrics as well as some yellow chenille and bright pink, wide ric rac. I love the brightness of this quilt!
I will take photos tomorrow (in better light) and post them tomorrow night.

This is the label I made. I scanned a piece of fabric onto the computer to get the images of the cats, composed my label, then printed it off onto fabric and stitched it to the quilt.

Possums

I just had to add these pics to my blog. This mother possum and her baby were wandering around yesterday, just outside the office door where my husband works. By the time someone got a camera, they had climbed up onto the roof, but the baby was so curious, he kept turning towards the camera. Cute!

Wedding Plans

DH, DD and I spent the afternoon checking out Blue Water Functions at Swansea RSL for DD's wedding reception next year, and it was perfect! We have booked, so now the date is set and the reception venue booked. Yes! We can now relax for a while.

The room was set up for a wedding and looked really lovely. There is a big window and also a roomy balcony, with beautiful views overlooking the water. We also drove around the area to check out the parks for an outdoor ceremony, and found 3 that were ideal. One was near the channel, one near the beach and one near the lake. All lovely spots. We'll check them out again later in the year.

Another quilt?!!!

I can't believe I've started another quilt when I am in the middle of so many! (Yes, I can believe it, actually). And no Sis, it's not yours. This one is for Minka (Minka Shadow Dancer, to give her her full title). Minka is the gorgeous black cat you see on the right.
As the weather gets cooler, she is curling up wherever there is a quilt or blanket left lying, and I am getting tired of washing cat hairs out, so.......
What's to bet she won't even like it!
I'd love to keep working on it today, but bookwork and BAS are enticing me (NOT!)

Last night I joined a SCQuilters side group (fatquarters) where everyone encourages and supports each other in their goals of weight loss. I have chosen my fabrics to put aside (each piece represents a kilo of my target for the next 6 months), and now I have to earn them back! Any not earned get donated to a worthwhile cause. I deliberately chose absolute favourites for which I have plans. It will really hurt if I lose them! I'm putting them everywhere that food is stored!

What's on this Weekend

I can't believe we're already a week past Easter! This weekend, I intend doing some quilting.
I am also checking out a wedding venue with my daughter, visiting the gallery to see a fibre arts exhibition (Judy Hooworth, etc), having lunch with my darling husband, and more sewing!
Among my WIPs is a lap quilt for my mother, using Lorelei's lovely cancer recovering ladies. I made a quilt for my mother when she was diagnosed with secondaries last year...it was supposed to be a lap quilt for her to cart around to treatments, but ended up being too big.

So many of my self designed quilts seem to grow of their own accord! There's no controlling them! LOL
This is the original "lap"quilt I made for her. I called it
"Angels To Watch Over You" and used the Angel View Garden coordinating prints plus some yummy aqua minke for lovely soothing texture. The minke is around the centre square and the border is also minke. I had a lot of trouble sewing the minke, even with a walking foot, but it was worth it in the end.
PS The quilt isn't really crooked ... it's just the way it was held and the angle of the photo

Easter Sunday

Happy Easter Sunday everyone! The sky so far is blue, here, but there are clouds hanging around, so we could be in for more rain. Not that I mind, but I am going to get outside before it's too late.
Well, my quilting hasn't progressed very far this weekend. Lots of interruptions and other priorities getting in the way. I have cut up the panel of Lorelei Designs "On the Mend". I am going to add extra borders to the ladies and make a lap quilt for my Mum.
She is living with cancer (developed metastasis last year from breast cancer which she had 8 years previously) and is holding her own at the moment.
This wasn't on the agenda for this weekend, but I was determined to fit something in last night before going to bed.
Hopefully, I'll have better luck today!

Easter! Quilting! Woohoo!

It's Thursday evening and the Easter break has just begun. I plan to spend a lot of time patchworking and quilting. I have a top to finish...I've been waiting for more fabric to come from the States and it arrived this week. I also have binding to do on 2 quilts, and a BOM to do!
If the weather is nice, I'll rest my eyes occasionally by going outside and poking around in the garden...what's left of it, since I took up quilting! :-)
Happy Easter everyone!
