Christmas Decorations

As promised, here are the decorations that are up so far.

What would Christmas be without a tree? I have several trees, in various shapes and sizes. You could say I have a collection! Originally, I placed them on the cupboard that now houses the Nativity, but when I bought said Nativity, I had nowhere else for it to go, so the trees had to be moved. Of course, moving them meant they couldn't all be together, so some spots, being treeless, had to be filled with ... you guessed it...more trees!

I think my Santa collection is starting to grow, too...

This is my current favourite... at night, with the (soft) light on, it throws beautiful shadows on the wall. Unfortunately, the flash destroys the shadows.

And of course, we have the big daddy of them all! I usually put silver Lamata on it, but I haven't found any this year (yet). It looks quite spectacular when it's fully dressed.

And here are some of my favourite tree decorations. We have collected these over the years. 2 of them date back to our first ever tree in our own home (1979), the rest have been collected since then. We always buy 2 or 3 new ones every year. Some were given to DD and DS when they were little, but even though I have offered to hand them over, both responded that they belong on the "home" tree. I think that's a nice sentiment.

More Santas....

....and (as Sheila says) "Would be" Santas.....

Christmas cards kept from previous years .... because they're particularly beautiful trees or Santas, of course! (The ones that appear framed are actually blu-tacked to the glass on some of our paintings.) New cards hang on red cord above the windows.

My Great Grandmother's dresser .... one day, I will strip it and re-varnish it. ...one day...

close ups

The Nutcracker (he's purple) and another tree....

a Santa t-towel that gets pinned on a door....

...a Polar Bear Elf that moves around the house...

here, he's on the venetian blinds, but sometimes he swings from the light fixtures! One never knows where he'll go next, but he never goes on the tree.

Then we have the bells... ...the coffee table centre piece....

...and of course, what's Christmas without some Tartan?

All the handles on all the drawers and doors are decorated like this......

That's the lounge room, folks! I'll try to do the dining room soon, but no promises! It's not nearly as full of decorations as the lounge room, though. (I'm sure you're pleased to hear that!) I haven't even started on the office, but as I don't have much for there, I think I need to go shopping for trees and Santas!

  1. I love your Grt grandmothers dresser, what a lovely treasure to have. I particularly like your idea of using past Xmas cards over existing pictures and hanging from the coathanger. I have a friend who makes her Xmas cards and I have kept all that I have received. This would be a perfect way to showcase these every Xmas instead of leaving them tucked in a drawer.

  3. Lindi, your house must look simply spectacular! Thank you very much for the gorgeous fabric with angels and flowers on it. I do love it, and have never ever seen any like it - it will certainly be used in a future project. There is a little "something" in the mail to you, so watch for your postman and have a Happy Christmas!
