Disappearing 9 Patch

Lately, there has been a lot of interest among quilters, in the Disappearing 9 Patch quilt. I have wanted to do one since I first read about them, but was on a "no buy" spree, and I really wanted to do something with my jelly rolls and my one Layer cake.

Most of the D9P quilts had a variety of fabrics, but there were repeated uses of those. I had this lovely Victorian Decadence Layer Cake (Moda - 36 10" squares) that I was itching to make up, but wasn't quite game as each square was different. Then I saw Wendy's tutorial with all her different fabrics, and thought I'd give it a go!

One of my 9 Patches

Cut into quarters

Layout One: very orderly to my way of thinking, but nice.

Layout Two: a little more random looking, although there is an orderly pattern there.
I think I prefer this one.

So that's what I've been up to today. I must say, it was a great feeling to be back in the sewing room after being away and then being too busy, to allow time there!

I have been wanting to give one of these a try. Just can't find the "right" fabrics.

Thank you for your lovely comment about my 4SQS quilt. I know exactly what you mean about the colours, but would not have been able to put it so evocatively. :)

  2. Hi Lindi,
Don't know where I've been, but I've only just begun to hear about this....(I suspect keeping my head down and focusing on finishing 1000000 UFOs would do it...lol).
I love yours and I quite like both layouts. Very pretty.
Are these about 12" unfinished 9 patches before cutting into them?
