Wordless Wednesday

Christmas with Minka

This is Minka, Christmas 1994, when she was only about 18months old. She often climbed up the centre of the tree and wriggled out to the end of the branches to play with the ornaments! We always knew, because we had little bells in the tree, and we could hear them as she climbed.

We didn't have as many ornaments back then, as we do now!

This is Minka helping me this Christmas. Her idea of helping is to pounce on the ornaments, sit on the plastic bags of ribbons and holly, and dive into the boxes before I finish unpacking them!

She no longer climbs up into the tree, fortunately, as she is quite a bit bigger now. However, she does like to sit under the tree, especially when the lights are on, so we have to leave a space for her amongst the presents, so she has room to curl up.

She has her own stocking and Santa usually leaves a tin of good quality Red Salmon for her, as well as a new collar.

Scatterdays!

This week's Scatterdays is bought to you by the letter D, and the categories are Sewing, Vehicle and Touchy Feely.

Here we have a dear little Donkey sitting on some denim dacks! Donkeys have been used as vehicles for centuries, transporting people and goods. Mary rode a donkey into Bethlehem for the very first Christmas. Denim is often used by people as a vehicle of self-expression.

This little donkey is also very touchy feely. Look at his doleful expression and droopy ears. Eeyore tends to daidle and has lots of doom and gloom thoughts and dreary feelings. His dove-grey coat feels dense and almost like domett. He's very nice to dandle and would be perfect in a little one's doss, constantly being dribbled upon.

This Eeyore has a darning needle sticking out of his derrierre! His tail had fallen off and needed sewing back on.

Scatterday challenge

Michelle has challenged me to do one photo for this week's Scatterdays. The letter is K, and I need something in my neighbourhood, something blue and something dangerous!

So here it is...

A Kookaburra on my clothesline! Look at his beautiful kingfisher blue wing. Dangerous? you say. Yes, he is deadly to all my skinks and spiders! Look at the knifelike beak! It's just like a kukri! It would put the kibosh on any future plans of the darling skinks. All he has to do is catch it and bash it on a klinker or kingle.

Yet despite this, I love seeing him around, and I love hearing his Kakakakakakaka!

Animal Circus

I have decided to get some work done on some of my WIPs, before starting any new projects (yes I know, I've said it before, but...). With that in mind, I have finally sandwiched Animal Circus and quilted it! I am very pleased with myself, because I have done stipple quilting for the very first time on a quilt! I did some practice pieces first until I got the tension right and got in the flow, then grew brave and started on the quilt. I was only going to do a little bit, but it worked so well, I kept doing more and more. It might not be the most perfect stippling you ever saw, but it is good enough to leave there, (only a few sharp corners, and I only met, not crossed, the thread 3 times). But boy, is my back aching now! I think I'll have to book in for a massage (any excuse!)

I still have to bind it, but until it is finished, here are some pics of Minka giving it her seal of approval.

Shari

We've been very busy welcoming a new addition to the family. A 4 legged one that has the honorary title of "first granddaughter".
Her name is Shari and she is a Shar Pei puppy, adopted by my son and his partner. She is now 11 weeks old, but this photo was taken at about 9 weeks. Isn't she cute?

Shari is my 4th "grandchild"; the others being the ADD boys (my daughter's 2 dogs Sid and Harley) and my son's galah, Alfie!! Apparently it will be about another 4 to 5 years before I get any grandchildren of the human variety

Possums

I just had to add these pics to my blog. This mother possum and her baby were wandering around yesterday, just outside the office door where my husband works. By the time someone got a camera, they had climbed up onto the roof, but the baby was so curious, he kept turning towards the camera. Cute!
