January Photo Challenge is Nature:Life

Di's photo challenge for January is Nature with a subtitle of Life. A very broad subject indeed, Di! There should be no excuses for missing this one.
Here's a few that I have taken over the last few months.

A little boring in composition, but I do like the way the light glints from their eyes.

i used a Zoom lens as they were too cautious to get close to.

One of the Magpies that comes to Mum's to be fed. They only come to get fed when they are feeding babies, and not every day. It depends on what other food is available. They come to the courtyard and sing for their food.

Ants farming scale insects.

The top photo was taken with flash as it was late afternoon and in the shade.
The photo below was taken without the flash.

Personally, I prefer the photo without flash. I like the muted light and the ant silhouettes.
Which do you prefer?

Photo Challenge - November

November's Photo Challenge was "How you see yourself ".
I decided to really put my thinking cap on for this one and made a few rules for myself.

1) I was not going to use photos of me, taken by other people, unless I had set them up with a specific concept in mind.
2) The photos had to convey an aspect of how I saw myself, rather than a clear image of me.

It has taken me nearly all month to work out what to do, so was a real challenge. Admittedly, part of that month, I didn't even think about the challenge. Pity really, because it was a time that would probably have shown other sides to me.

Anyway, here are my photos. I have stepped over the line in that I have more than three, but I'm taking advantage of the fact that I could have been posting these during the month, and simply chosen my favourite 3 at the end.

How I see Me:

a night owl...

a dreamer...

scattered and messy...

soft hearted...

keeper of secrets...

an optomistic survivor
a wannabe rebel... (bright violet/red dyed hair - this is my fringe)

sometimes mysterious...

an observer...

reflective (still waters run deep)...

an unfinished project...

*The owl is a photo of a portion of a painting by Shirley Bennetts.

August Photo Challenge, Wedding

I didn't really get a chance to "do" this challenge properly, but here are some photos I took a few months ago.
This is water sitting in my gutter overflow tub (I use it to water pot plants that don't get much rain water).
The first shows reflections, the second shows ripples from a water drop just seen in the centre, and in the third, I actually catch a drop just about to hit the water. (I used the flash for this, hence the different colour)

September's challenge is Food. Should be quite a challenge to get some really interesting photos, not just the standard food pics. Wonder if I can meet that challenge?

Count down to THE Wedding!
I have finally had time to find an outfit. Now I just need to do some minor alterations. Everything that has to be paid for ahead, has been paid for; RSVPs are in; table decorations organised (my wonderful little Sister has made the family traditional slippers for the tables - picture later - ) ; everything but the flowers and the bags for the girls, are ready!
We've had some hiccups with the flowers - L chose silk, even tho' she would have preferred real,so that we could have them early to colour coordinate other things. Last week, we were told that the supplier has run out of stock so we have to change things! I hope they work out ok! Still, if that's the only thing that goes wrong, we're doing fine!
As for making the bags, that's one of my jobs. Crossed fingers that I get time to get them done. They won't take long to sew, it's the cutting out I'm having trouble doing! Taffeta is so darned slippery! Much harder to handle than quality cotton...LOL
I'm making petal bags for all the girls, but a bit bigger than I've made before.
I'll post pics once they are finished.
Busy week ahead, so next post will probably be about the wedding.

Scatterdaisies Photo Challenge

The end of the month...so here are my 3 photos for Di's challenge. The topic for this month was "Frame Your View".

Di wants us to do these as a mosaic, but I have never got around to learning how to do that. Perhaps I should ask someone.

July's challenge is "Reflections".

Photo Challenge for Scatterdaisies

Thanks to Di, there is now a new game for Scatterdaisies to play! Each month, Di will issue a subject for us to photograph. We can post photos all month if we wish, but in the last week of the month, we post our 3 best photos.
If you want to play, (and to see Di's great examples), go to Di's Snippits.
June's subject is "Frame Your View".

Here's my first photo, taken off the end of Nobby's Breakwater.
